Serendipitously we stumbled into Brewgrass 2013. We randomly drove by the festival on our way back into Asheville after aborting the hike due to fog, saw a huge crowd of people, were driving around trying to figure out what was going on when this nice local guy walking his dog randomly offered us a parking spot at his house. We parked and walked down to the entry tent and got tickets scalped to us for way under face value by a nice volunteer lady and BOOM there we were dazed confused and unlimited beer

The travel gods knew we had cooler places to discover than hiking trails that day :) We can only read the divine signs and follow where they lead!

The travel gods still love me after all. Bojangles right next to our gate which was right next to where we deplaned

San Juan airport sucks. Bad communication from the wedding planner/transportation company made it so we had no idea we would need to take an 11am shuttle for our 5:45pm flight. We have been sitting here waiting since we got blatantly lied to about whether or not we could get on standby for an earlier flight. If I had known the “brunch” for this wedding was actually just a glorified continental breakfast we would have just left in the morning. I’m so glad that we didn’t hang out in San Juan at all because people have been nothing but rude to us here. It’s amazing to me how different we have been treated here versus what we’ve seen of the rest of the island. I guess I shouldn’t have expected anything different from a metro area.

We took it easy with our delicious desayuno from a local panaderia on our oceanview balcony. Then we hopped on the resort ferry to Palomino Island, a small private island just off the coast. Lots of cool snorkeling to be had in the rocky reefs! After we came back to the mainland we walked up to Las Croabas and had another great meal at El Racar. We finished up the day with our friends’ beautiful wedding at Hacienda Siesta Alegre, a stunning venue in the foothills of El Yunque. They even had lechon!

We started the day off in El Yunque National Rainforest where we took a dip in the La Mina Falls. Then we drove down to Guavate where we ate at the famous Los Pinos Lechonera, featured on The Layover with Anthony Bourdain!

I just want to say that Puerto Rican natives are the nicest people ever. The nicest lady dock worker gave us a ride to our hotel when we arrived back at the ferry terminal and there were no publicos. Bless you Helga!
